The color’s amazing. I am Maya Feller and I am a registered dietician nutritionist. One of the ways that I shop is actually in bulk. I make sure that I’m using reusable glass jars because it’s better for our planet and I also know that I’m not exposing my family to any harsh plastics. I’ve got my dried unsweetened blueberries. You’re gonna get anti-oxidants. You’re gonna get polyphenols. You’re gonna get vitamins and minerals. I love these just plain jarred tomatoes with nothing added. I control what’s going in. I love ’em. We always have seaweed in our cabinet at home. It is a fantastic snack. It’s soluble and insoluable fiber as well as omega-3’s. Having fresh produce in my home is absolutely important. It is the basis of all of our meals. We’re really really into mushrooms. These are cremini mushrooms. I will buy different types of mushrooms and just vary them in and out because the nutrition properties are very based on the mushroom. This is something that I love. I’ve got swiss chard and it’s rainbow chard. So when you chop it up you’re going to see this gorgeous purple color in the stalk. Really nice source of vitamins and minerals. Duck eggs are like a lot bigger than regular eggs. They’re higher in protein, so it’s about nine grams of protein per duck egg, which is amazing. If you’re looking for an alternative to a conventional potato chip a flavored plantain chip which is low in sodium, with no added sugars is a really really great option. These are Jerusalem artichoke. It’s a resistant starch and so that’s nice for people who are trying to pay attention to blood sugar spikes. This is a watermelon radish, this is a black radish, and then this one is a rainbow radish. You make like a radish salad with like a little bit of dressing and some seeds. Oh my gosh, it is so so outstanding. This is my lactose-free milk. Really easy for me to digest. I will never give up my morning coffee. Favorite snack foods. I mean, again, we are so here. Yeah, I love it.
It’s crazy. These are my two favorite snacks. Almonds and popcorn. Oh my goodness, couldn’t be better. I literally have all of this in my pantry. I love popcorn because it’s a whole food, it’s whole grain. It’s a little bit crunchy. And then when you have the almonds, I’m going to start putting this together right just how I normally would do it. The almond’s a wonderful source of protein, so it’s going to help to keep you satiated because I feel like it’s really important for snacks to be efficient, you know? Yeah, they have to fill you up. Absolutely. You eat something that’s high in sugar you only feel peppy for a couple minutes and then you hit that wall. That’s absolutely right. And it’s also meant to add nutrition to the day, right? So a snack is like another opportunity to give your body a boost of vitamins. Protein and fiber.
Exactly! And then oh my goodness, let’s look at this. These are dried blueberries. Yum!
I know! She’s making like an afternoon trail mix. It is an afternoon trail mix. I’m actually going to taste one right now because. I love dried blueberries, they’re lovely. It’s like a crunch, a sweet, a salty. They’re delightful. They’re fantastic. (applause) I don’t think that you guys realize this. If you put unpopped popping corn, you just put kernels in a brown paper sack, a lunch bag, absolutely no fat whatsoever, fold the top of the sack and put it in your microwave for two minutes, it will pop just like all those flavored popcorns. Except without the salt and the fat. Yes, I love that!
Yes! Oh my goodness.
Thank you! That is fantastic. That is absolutely fantastic. Absolutely no salt, no fat. Next, this is something that I love. This is a little bit of an unexpected snack. This is seaweed and we, I know. Nori. Nori, exactly and we are gonna wrap it around a hard boiled egg. Delicious. It is so fantastic. So in a little bit of water. It’s like a hard boiled egg sushi. It is, it is. Oh my goodness, for the people who don’t want to have the fish, you know, just go for the hard boiled egg. And so then you wrap it around. And one of the reasons that I really like it is because, you know, the seaweed is a great source of fiber. You’re also going to get some vitamins and minerals. Pair that with your egg and protein and you have a really efficient snack.
Adorable. Yours is gorgeous, mine looks like urgh. (applause) (laughs) Yours! Look at hers! Oh my goodness. But you know if you pickled those eggs it would be really beautiful too. If you put them into, you know, a vinegar solution you could do, you know, all sorts of dried spices in there. And then cut them in half. It would be really pretty at a cocktail party. Oh my gosh I love that idea. We have to hang.
Yeah, right. The two of us have to hang. (applause)
