I keep a running document on my laptop.
I’m pointing over here because
I have my laptop, ta-da.
And I keep them there,
Because I’m like,
‘Well that’s a good question.’
But they are piling up.
And so I may do a one off video
here where I answer a question.
So make sure you’re subscribed
so you don’t miss it.
Because it may be your question.
But it’s easier if I do one question.
I know that, I’ve heard feedback from a
lot of you that you prefer it that way.
And also it gives me more
time to talk about it.
Makes the video shorter and easier to
watch when you’re pressed for time.
And it also, most importantly, makes
them so much easier to search for.

Because I have so many friggen videos.
And I answer a ton of
questions in my old ones.
And then, like, one video could
talk about seven topics.
And like I try to tag it.
But it doesn’t always pull
them up on youtube.
I know a lot of you have
asked me questions,
And I’m like,
‘I have already talked about that.’
But how do we find that video?
Today’s question is,
‘Hey Kati, so I saw my dietician
today as an outpatient.’
Outpatient meaning you go
in to see your treatment team members,
And you go back to your regular life,
Just like a regular doctors appointment.
‘And I didn’t get that feeling
that I do with my therapist.’
Kind of like that click.
Like the relationship will
work and function well.
‘Am I supposed to? Do I just not like her
because she’s controlling my food?’
‘How do I know?’
Now we usually don’t like our dieticians
the way we like our therapists.
Dieticians aren’t usually soft and ooey
gooey mushy, like a therapist might be.
They’re not motherly like that.
They’re very rigid.
Because they have to be.
It’s part of their job.
They’re setting boundaries for you.
They’re telling you what to eat,
When to eat,
And that’s it.
So it won’t feel the same.
Secondly, if we have an eating disorder,
Any kind of eating disorder,
No one is better than the other,
We’re not going to really
like them that much.
Because our eating disorder
is going to be like,
‘You stupid jerk. I can’t have that. I can’t
eat this often. I can’t not eat more than this.’
And we’re going to be really pissed off.
And they’re going to
take away your binges.
They will take away your exercise.
Take away different things that
contribute to your eating disorder.
They’re going to be
really strict about it.
Because it’s their job.
So, we have to take into
consideration all of those things, okay.
We should still feel connected to them.
Like they hear us, they are understanding
about where we are.
And they do their best to meet us there.
Do their best.
Because they’re going to
still have set goals for you.
Because they have to.
Recognise, is it just my eating disorder and
that like inner child part of me that’s like,
‘No! I do what I want! I eat when I want! I work
out when I want! And you don’t tell me any of that!’
Is that part of it?
Because it might be.
And so, take some time.
Think about it.
Because we need to see,
If they are not understanding at all.
And they are not trying to meet with us
and get a feel for where we are at.
And work with us.
Then they are probably just a jerk.
And you probably should find someone else.
That’s the difference.
Is that clear?
So they should still be
understanding and hear you out,
Find out where you are at in your recovery
process and try to meet you there.
And work with you.
If they are not doing that,
Then I would find someone else.
But chances are,
Most of my clients, at least.
Just really don’t like their
dietician like they like me.
Because they are more rigid.
Because they have to be.
And they are controlling their food.
And it makes our eating disorder so angry.
So yeah, consider those things.
Take some time.
Maybe journal about it.
And write it down.
Because once we do that.
Then we can really see why it is that we
don’t have that ‘click’ with our dietician.
Because it’s never the same
as it is with our therapist.
But there should still be some
level of understanding.
